OUR SCHOOL

About Winston Park

Winston Park Primary School is a warm, family school in Gillitts, where children from Grade R to Grade 7 are known, nurtured and challenged to grow. Guided by our motto, “Grow in Strength,” we believe that primary school is where the foundations of a child’s life are laid — in the classroom, on the sports field, and emotionally and socially.

We love others · We live happy lives · We learn beyond the classroom

A FAMILY SCHOOL

Our History

Winston Park Primary School is a much-loved family school set in Gillitts, in the leafy Upper Highway area of KwaZulu-Natal. We are a co-educational primary school catering for learners from Grade R right through to Grade 7, across the Foundation, Junior and Senior Primary phases.

Our motto, “Grow in Strength,” speaks to everything we stand for: a place where every child is given the room, the support and the encouragement to develop — academically, physically, emotionally and socially. Over the years our school has grown into a close-knit community of learners, families and staff who share a genuine love for this special school.

Our History

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Mission & Vision

Winston Park Primary School exists to lay strong foundations for every child entrusted to our care. We strive to develop confident, capable and compassionate young people who are ready to take their next steps in life with courage and integrity.

Our vision is a school where children are known by name, where teachers are seen as a positive influence and an example to live by, and where learning extends well beyond the classroom. We are committed to academic excellence, to holistic development through sport and culture, and to building a community in which every learner can truly grow in strength.

OUR CULTURE

Values & Ethos

Our culture is shaped by three simple but powerful values that run through everything we do at Winston Park:

We love others

We build a school community founded on kindness, respect and care — for one another, for our families and for the wider community we serve.

We live happy lives

We believe children learn best when they are happy, secure and valued. Joy, friendship and a sense of belonging are at the heart of our school.

We learn beyond the classroom

Learning does not stop at the classroom door. Through sport, culture, clubs, outings and outreach, our learners discover, explore and grow in every direction.

DEVELOPING FUTURE EDUCATORS

The WPPS Internship Programme

The Winston Park Primary School Internship Programme provides aspiring educators with valuable practical teaching experience within a supportive and professional school environment. Designed to bridge the gap between theory and classroom practice, the programme equips interns with essential teaching, leadership, and professional skills needed for the South African education sector. WPPS is committed to developing future educators, promoting diversity within the profession, and supporting areas of teaching where skills shortages exist. We are very fortunate to have an intern in every Foundation Phase classroom and one per grade in the Intermediate Phase.

CARE FOR EVERY LEARNER

Sickroom & Medical Officer

Our Sickroom is led by our Medical Officer, Feri Fassihi. The Medical Officer’s role goes far beyond a typical first-aid station; they provide a comprehensive umbrella of care for every learner.

Here is a look at what our Medical Officer manages:

Comprehensive clinical care

From treating sudden injuries and acute illnesses to managing complex chronic conditions like diabetes, epilepsy, and severe allergies, our Medical Officer ensures every student can learn in a safe, supported environment.

Preventative health & screenings

By partnering with the Department of Health, the office coordinates essential vaccination drives and arranges specialised visits from optometrists and audiologists to catch vision or hearing hurdles early.

Policy & record keeping

They are the architect of our school’s health policies, ensuring we meet top safety standards while maintaining meticulous, confidential health records for every student.

Medic Leadership Programme

Passionate about peer-to-peer empowerment, our Medical Officer leads a student leadership programme, mentoring learners in basic first aid and emergency response skills.

LEADERSHIP

Governance — SGB & MANCO

School Governing Body (SGB)

Our School Governing Body works alongside school leadership to guide the strategic direction, values and good governance of Winston Park Primary School, ensuring that decisions are always made in the best interests of our learners and our community.

Management Committee (MANCO)

Our Management Committee oversees the day-to-day running of the school, bringing together the leadership team to support our teachers, our families and, most importantly, our children.
